Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
