He revealed that his recovery is on track and remained hopeful about the likelihood of taking part.

"We're aware that the clock is ticking and various factors involved, aside from the back issue, but additional elements," Bailey remarked.

"The outlook is good. There's strong faith that he's going to play a major part. Hopefully from the opening match. Otherwise, we'll reassess."

Past Concerns

Previous incidents include of back injuries, with flare-ups in multiple past seasons leading to absences from three Australian summers in four years.

He emphasized he would be bold in recovery efforts in his recovery plan to ensure his availability for the Ashes.

He mentioned that it was unclear if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his recovery but acknowledged it was "getting tight" for him to be fit for the first Test.

Contingency Plans

If he's unavailable, veteran batsman Smith will take over the captaincy.

All-rounder Cameron Green was recently pulled out from the national team for their one-day international series against the subcontinent side as a safety move because of soreness in his side.

The selector characterized it as a "minor" injury and stated that he'll feature in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "in a good place to resume bowling."

"Extensive planning has gone into developing the strategy for him to take part for the initial game as an dual-role player," the selector detailed.

"Originally, he'd only feature in the starting games regardless. How he handles the bat in limited-overs, even if it just sets him back for another day, we just made the decision to adopt a safer strategy."
